Columbine Vineyards is packing grapes in new bags.
Eliminating a tear-away seam at the top and inserting additional holes in the bag make for more efficient packing, according to the release.
The bags use 6.5% less plastic than previous bags, according to the release.
“We are evaluating new technologies that include smarter packaging that reduces plastic to serve a greater purpose by being environmentally friendly,” Lauren Olcott, Columbine Vineyards’ marketing representative, said in the release.
Columbine plans to pack the trademarked Holiday and Black Globe proprietary grapes in the bags, according to the release.
It plans to launch a new Milano-branded bag in 2015.
Columbine Vineyards is a fourth-generation family-owned and operated grower, packer and shipper of California San Joaquin Valley grapes.
