Hayes also served as director of the Florida Agricultural Station in Gainesville during the same time, according to a news release. He assumed both of those positions July 1, 2012, having served as UF/IFAS interim dean for research since July 2011.

Hayes will assume the CSU position in Fort Collins June 1.

He replaces Joyce Berry, who is retiring from CSU. Berry was dean from 2004-06 and again beginning in 2009.

Hayes earned a doctorate in ecology and evolutionary biology from Cornell University, a master's degree in biology from Southern Oregon State College and a bachelor's in wildlife science from Oregon State University.

The Warner College includes more than 500 researchers and faculty working in 75 countries worldwide. It is one of eight colleges within the land-grant CSU system.
