NPC releases potato-specific food safety guide

NPC potato guidance The National Potato Council has released commodity-specific food safety guidelines for the potato industry.

The document, which can be downloaded from the NPC website, contains recommendations for all involved in the production, storage, packing and transport of potatoes.

It also provides basic guidelines to harmonize existing food safety programs, according to a news release.

The document is broken down into four sections: general practices, production and harvest operations, storage unit operations and packinghouse operations.

Each section lists a set of best practices to address potential food safety issues.
