USDA boosts citrus estimate

In its June forecast, the U.S. Department of Agriculture increased its 2008-09 estimate of the Florida orange crop by 2 million boxes to 159.6 million boxes.

All of the increases came for Valencies, which now total 75 million boxes. Early and midseason varieties stand at 84.6 mllion boxes.

The USDA also revised down its forecast of grapefruit by 700,000 boxes to 21.8 million boxes.
