Citrus canker jury hears tree reimbursement case

A jury in Palm Springs County will decide whether the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services owes more than 40,000 of the county's residents additional reimbursement for 66,463 trees destroyed during the citrus canker eradication campaign.

Plaintiffs contend that the average value of the trees destroyed was more than $500 each, far more than the $100 Walmart gift card the state offered for the first tree taken and $55 for each additional tree removed.
