In anticipation of a new organic version in August, Tasti Lee Tomatoes is sponsoring the salsa tasting tent at the 20th annual Oxnard Salsa Festival in Oxnard, Calif.
The variety also is the official tomato of the festival, according to a news release.
Festival attendees can visit the 40-by-130-foot long tent to sample 50 different salsas under one roof.
The festival itself will feature main stage entertainment, salsa dance, a demonstration kitchen, vendor booths, tortilla art for kids and a recipe contest.
Kids also can meet Tasti Man, the Tasti Lee superhero that saves the world from poor tasting tomatoes, according to the release.
It will be held from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., July 27-28.
Oxnard is just up the road from Deardorff Family Farms, which is the West Coast grower-packer of the variety from Bejo Seeds.
Developed by the University of Florieda using natural breeding techniques, Tasti Lee has deep red flesh and higher levels of lycopene, which has been touted for its health benefits.
