The event is put on by a group led by Mary Lu Arpaia, a cooperative Extension subtropical horticulturalist and avocado expert, according to a news release.

Each month, students, faculty and the public participate in a tasting of new varieties in the pipeline.

Chancellor Kim Wilcox and his wife, Diane Del Buono, as well as officials from the California Avocado Commission were among those at a Feb. 13 event.

The tastings have been conducted for the past two years.

Future events are planned for March 13, April 17, May 21 and June 11, beginning at 10 a.m. in the lobby of Batchelor Hall, UC Riverside.
