Researchers shed light on viral cucurbit disease

Melon growers in both the Southeast and Southwest may get some relief from a devastating melon disease, thanks to research by university and Agricultural Research Service scientists.

They have identified seven weed families that can serve as alternative hosts for cucurbit yellow stunting disorder virus.

They also found that whitefly control plays a role in helping to manage the viral disease.
