Researchers ask: Can sweet corn be grown with less atrazine?

Researchers at the University of Illinois want to know whether sweet corn can be grown with less of the herbicide atrazine and still produce the same yields.

They posed that research question in light of the Environmental Protection Agency's scrutiny of the widely used herbicide from Syngenta Crop Protection.

They conducted field trials examining different rates of atrazine in conjunction with Laudis, a relatively new herbicide from Bayer CropScience, in several areas throughout North America.
