The American Phytopathological Society has just updated its wide-ranging tomato pest handbook, adding nearly 20 new diseases.

The 160-page soft-bound "Compendium of Tomato Diseases and Pests, Second Edition," contains about 250 color images of pests and diseases for easy identification, according to a news release.

In addition to diseases, it includes 23 color photos of arthropod pests, including mites, insects and worms.

It is arranged in an easy-to-use format that includes distribution, identification, description of the causal agent, the pest cycle and management recommendations.

It covers tomatoes grown in greenhouses, open fields and gardens as well as postharvest.
