California researcher treks to Peru in search of avocado pests

Mark Hoddle, a University of California, Riverside, entomologist, is kind of like the Indiana Jones of the bug world.

Until the end of July, he's in the steamy jungle zone of Peru looking for biological control for the avocado seed moth, which is native to the country.

The pest has not yet landed on the shores of the United States, but Hoddle wants to be ready if it does.

Peruvian avocados already are being imported into the United States.
