He said heat early in the summer gave way to excellent growing conditions. Immediate and effective grower response to late blight patches also helped, he said.

"Amanda has a great early warning system for the growers and when the late blight was discovered it was taken care of," Wysocki said Aug. 21. "Now we're harvesting for direct to consumer sales and plan to start storage around Sept. 9."
