The non-profit Plant Management Network has launched two educational webinars on the subject hosted by Joe Guenthner, an agricultural economics professor at the University of Idaho, Moscow, according to a news release.
The sessions, titled "Potato Economics" and "Potato Economic Issues 2012," are designed for growers and consultants.
Potato Economics discusses economic principles that apply to potato markets.
Potato Economic Issues 2012 covers four economic issues affecting the industry:
• Market power in the potato marketing chain,
• Potato production costs,
• Crop protection and
• Marketing, which includes discussion of a rapidly growing restaurant chain that buys large volumes of fresh potatoes.
Both presentations will have open access through Aug. 31.
