Although there are no cures for potato blackleg, soft rot and stem rot and no resistant varieties, cultural practices can go a long way to help control losses from the diseases.

To help producers, Focus on Potato has launched a new educational webinar titled, "Soft Rot and Blackleg Diseases of Potato," according to a news release.

The 16-minute session is led by Amy Charkowski, an associate plant pathology professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Charkowski will walk viewers through pathogen biology and then show how growers can interfere with the organisms at planting, during the growing season and at harvest.

The presentation will be accessible through March 31.

You can view other topics on the Focus on Potato website.

Focus on Potato is hosted by the Plant Management Network, a nonprofit collaboration of the American Phytopathological Society, the American Society of Agronomy and Crop Science Society of America.
