In light of the recent outbreak of zebra chip in the Pacific Northwest, the Plant Management Network has posted an educational webcast on the disease and its vector, the potato psyllid, on its website.
Joseph Munyaneza, a research entomologist with the Agricultural Research Service, will speak on the biology and management of potato psyllid and zebra chip, according to a news release.
Munyaneza has spent several years trapping and monitoring potato psyllid populations in the Washington potato prouction area.
Based on that work, he says he believes the psyllids are migrating into the area each year rather than being residient populations.
The free webinar will be posted through Jan. 31, 2012, at www.plantmanagementnetwork.org.
