A new program from the United Fresh Produce Association and international standards group IFS will give fruit and vegetable packing companies a chance to be certified with the Harmonized Standard from United Fresh during an IFS food audit.

The program will be introduced at United Fresh 2014, June 10-13, in Chicago, and will grow after a planned auditor training course in August, according to a news release from United Fresh.

The program gives produce operators a streamlined solution to gain Global Food Safety Initiative benchmarked certification with IFS Food and the United Fresh Harmonized Standard, according to the release. The program also offers GlobalG.A.P. certification for producers.

Working with United Fresh, IFS has created a tool for fruit and vegetable producers and packing companies to get certified in the pre-production area as well as post-harvest, in a one-stop approach, according to the release.

More information on the program is available from George Gansner of IFS at Gansner@ifs-certification.com.
