Okanagan Specialty Fruits Inc., British Columbia, the variety's developer, is seeking nonregulated status for the apple so it can move without restrictions into conventional apple channels.

The USDA published the original request for comments Nov. 8, 2013, and closed Dec. 9. The new deadline is Jan. 30.

Ditto! As it is, the world has an overproduction of apples and there is absolutely no need ot justification for GMO apples. It will only hurt those growers who are using natural methods to grow their apples.

There is an apple at the grocery stores, OPAL, that resists browning, that to my knowledge is not GMO, but a cross between two other apple varieties. We don't need GMO apples to have a very good selection of good eating apples. And we don't need this intrusion into the fresh fruit market, to put all apples in question. For our health we all need to eat good fresh fruits and vegetables in peace.

Our family would be absolutely thrilled to be some of the first customers & consumers of the Arctic apple. Keep up the excellent work toward bringing biotechnically improved agricultural products to market! Thanks for your dedication & hard work.
