The Tour de Fresh, a new cycling event to raise funds for school salad bars before the Produce Marketing Association Fresh Summit trade show in October in Anaheim, has launched its website.

At, donations can be made to support riders and benefit the United Fresh Produce Association’s Let’s Move Salad Bars to Midwest Schools campaign.

Each participant aims to raise enough money to fund one salad bar for his or her selected school. The total for the campaign is close to $120,000, according to a news release.

The event will feature 40 fresh produce industry members cycling 275 miles from Carmel, Calif., to Anaheim Oct. 13-16. The PMA Fresh Summit Convention and Expo is Oct. 17-19.

More information is available from Brock Nemecek at 214-444-7454 or Cindy Jewell at 831-728-1965.

“Originally we had planned for 30 riders, but we had to increase this number due to the overwhelmingly positive support,” Nemecek, account manager at DMA Solutions and a participant, said in the release.

“By providing funds for salad bars in at least 40 schools, we are encouraging these children to develop healthy eating habits that can last a lifetime,” said Jewell, director of marketing at California Giant Berry Farms.

Sponsor and rider lists are both full, but other participation remains open. Donations to individual riders can be made at the website. A training guide is also available.
