When you hear Outback Steakhouse, the first thing that comes to mind may not be Florida grapefruit.
Through a unique partnership with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the Tampa, Fla.-based steakhouse chain is promoting the state's yellow fruit on its menu in South Korea, according to a news release.
At its 110 South Korean locations, the chain will begin featuring a "Fresh from Florida" red grapefruit cocktail.
Since 2007, the volume of Florida grapefruit exports to South Korea has increased by more than 400 percent to more than 358,000 42.5-pound cartons this year.
In addition to Outback, South Korean distributor JinWon has expanded marketing of Florida grapefruit to 300 stores across the country, and Okuwa grocery has agreed to promote fresh grapefruit in 173 stores in Japan.
A partnership with Growers Synergy in Singapore provides valencia oranges, grapefruit, tomatoes, juice and blueberry wine to 170 retail outlets.
