Courtesy Ocean Mist FarmsOcean Mist Farms has added baby broccoli to its vegetable lineup.

Castroville, Calif.-based Ocean Mist began shipping baby broccoli the week of April 21, according to a company news release.

Consumer demand for the product, which is a cross between broccoli and Chinese kale, drove Ocean Mist to add it, Joe Feldman, the company’s vice president of sales and marketing, said in the release.

“This is a logical addition to our product line,” Feldman said.

In the 52 weeks ending Feb. 22, baby broccoli sales in the U.S. grew 13% in both volume and dollar sales, according to Nielsen Perishables Group data cited by Ocean Mist. Sales topped $9.5 million.

Baby broccoli is sweeter than regular broccoli and features long, thin stalks and small floret clusters that often contain edible yellow flowers.

Ocean Mist plans to ship year-round in both iced and iceless 18-count packs. Accompanying hang tags will include recipes.
