Nunhems, the vegetable seed arm of Monheim, Germany-based Bayer CropScience, has entered into agreements with two produce companies to market specialty seed varieties in the United States.

Mann Packing will market Green Glace, a green leaf lettuce-iceberg lettuce hybrid, to the food service industry under the Better Burger Leaf brand, according to a news release.

Green Glace has the shape of green leaf lettuce but the crunch of iceberg.

Mann Packing, Salinas, Calif., will work with Nunhems to ensure the hybrid lettuce can be grown in both the desert and Salinas areas for year-round availability, according to the release.

The Produce Exchange, Livermore, Calif., will market the Intense tomato hybrid under the Tesoro label.

The hybrid yields reduced leakage when cut, which means less sogginess in sandwiches and burgers, according to the release.

The U.S. branch of Nunhems is headquartered in Parma, Idaho.
