Nunhems, the vegetable seed division of the Bayer CropScience, opened a state-of-the-art onion bulb storage facility in Brooks, Ore., last week.
The 31,000-square-foot building uses reverse charging in the return air system to help dry umbels, or short onion stalks, on both sides of the structure, according to a news release.
The facility also will improve the reliability of Nunhems' seed supply.
Before the new building, the company relied on rented structures. Now it can have all of its onion seed under one roof.
