Farmers who donate to New York food banks as part of the "Glean NY" initiative will be reimbursed for harvesting costs, thanks to a grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation.
The Bentonville, Ark.-based foundation made the donation to the Food Bank Association of New York State, according to a news release.
Glean NY is a collaboration among Cornell University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the state's growers, the Food Bank Association of New York State and the New York Farm Bureau.
All varieties and quantities of produce will be accepted, whether or not they're washed or graded.
To arrange pickup, contact the food bank association at 518-433-4505. Donations may be tax deductible.
