National retailers expand produce offerings

Several national retail chains, including Walmart and Walgreens, have agreed to open stores in so-called "food deserts"—econonically depressed areas that lack access to healthy foods.

Walgreens, for example, is conducting pilot programs in Chicago and San Francisco to sell loose fruits and vegetables and prepackaged salads and fruits.
