Stationed at the AgCenter since 1988, LaBonte recently released two new improved varieties designed to replace the industry standard, Beauregard, according to a news release.
They are Orleans, which is sweeter, and 07-146, a higher-yielding root designed for the processing sector.
Beauregard was released in 1987.
The award, presented annually through the LSU Foundation, is made annually to a scientist who during his or her career at the AgCenter has made significant contributions to the industry.
