The ceremony, at Fowler Packing’s Fresno, Calif., packinghouse, also marked the opening of exhibitor registration.
The expo, which was in March since its inception in 2011, will be later to coincide with central California’s main produce harvesting season, according to a news release.
“The 2014 Fresno Food Expo, now hosted in July during the San Joaquin Valley’s prime growing season, will better bring together the full scope of the San Joaquin Valley’s vast food production industry — everything from fresh to finished and value-added will be all on display at the expo and in bigger numbers,” Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin said in the release.
Show exhibitors represent produce, food and beverage companies in the eight-county San Joaquin Valley.
Returning to the expo will be the new product awards presented by Fresno accounting firm Baker, Peterson & Franklin.
The show has grown significantly since 2011, with two-thirds of exhibitors from 2013 indicating they will return this year, according to the release.
About 75% of past exhibitors have reported their sales have increased at least 15% as a result of the show.
In addition, buyer participation has grown by more than 220% during the past three years. More than 600 local, national and international buyers attended the 2013 show, with 71% of those having purchasing authority.
Among past attendees are Costco, Save Mart Supermarkets, Whole Foods, Vallarta, Sam’s Club, Bristol Farms, Trader Joe’s and Kroger.
