Fresh Fruit Cuts has introduced fresh-cut peaches and nectarines under the label of Woot Froot.

The fresh-cut stonefruit, expected to carry a 15-day shelf life, will be available through October, according to a news release from the Fresno, Calif.-based company.

Fresh Cut Fruits plans for year-round Woot Froot availability by 2014, according to the release.

“Woot Froot pairs the great taste of fresh nectarines and peaches — one of America’s top 10 fruits — with the ease and convenience of fresh-cut and the added benefit of consistent quality and flavor,” Kim Gaarde of Fresh Fruit Cuts said in the release.

A researcher worked with Gaarde’s company Fruit Dynamics for seven years to develop a proprietary process for selecting, processing and packaging the fresh-cut peaches and nectarines, she said in the release.

More than 500 varieties of peaches and nectarines were tested before finding only a few varieties that provided the desired taste and texture for the Woot Froot label, she said in the release. Retail consumer packs are available in 3-ounce and 18-ounce trays, according to the release, and bulk packs are available for foodservice.

Woot Froot takes the guesswork out of purchasing ready-to-eat stonefruit, according to the release, a category that has been relatively flat in retail sales in recent years.

“Three out of five consumers prefer to purchase ripe fruit, but two out of five don’t know how to go about it,” Gaarde said in the release. “We aim to change that and add a little excitement,”
