EPA seeks comments on petition to cancel all methyl iodide uses

The Environmental Protection Agency is soliciting comments on a request submitted by the environmental group, Earthjustice, to cancel all uses of methyl iodide.

The fumigant, registered to Cary, N.C.-based Arysta LifeScience North America, is marketed under the brand name Midas.

The EPA registered the fumigant in 2007, and 47 states followed suit.

Earthjustice filed the petition on behalf of several non-governmental organizations on March 10, 2010, according to an EPA news release.

The comment period is 30 days.
