Marrone Bio InnovationsThe Environmental Protection Agency has registered MBI-005, a new broad-spectrum biological herbicide from Marrone Bio Innovations of Davis, Calif.

The herbicide is based on a natural compound produced by a Streptomyces bacterium that kills weeds by halting cellular biosynthesis and division, according to a news release.

When tankmixed with other herbicides, MBI-005 enhances their effectiveness, according to field trial data.

MBI-005 also has pre-emergence activity on broadleaves and sedges.

State registrations are pending.
