“There’s no shortage of demand for California fruit this year.”

On May 21, two-layer cartons of yellow-flesh California peaches 48s sold for $35-40 on the Los Angeles terminal market, up from $28-32 last year at the same time.

Brandt Farms expects to begin shipping black splendors and other plums about June 5.

“The sets look good, we should have good volumes,” he said. “They’re not too heavy. We haven’t had to spend too much thinning.”

Family Tree reported good sizing and quality on its early plumquats, Plain said.
