Comments on proposed changes to the Leafy Greens Marketing Agreement’s food safety metrics related to production locations are due April 6.
Western Growers, Irvine, Calif., announced the comment deadline in a March newsletter. The proposed changes concern Issues 13 and 14 in the Leafy Greens Marketing Agreement guidance document, which deal with climate/environment and encroachment by animals and urban settings, respectively.
Recommended changes focus on clarifying the document and reducing or eliminating potential environmental effects as the result of implementing best practices.
Western Growers is working on a systematic review of the food safety metrics in the Leafy Greens Marketing Agreement, and the proposed changes to the production location items are scheduled for adoption in July.
As part of a broader review, Western Growers is working with a panel formed under a project paid for by the Specialty Crop Block Grant Program. The panel surveyed growers as part of its review process.
