Bayer CropScience to buy AgraQuest

AgraQuestBayer CropScience, based in Monheim, Germany, has signed an agreement to purchase Davis, Calif.-based AgraQuest for $425 million.

The acquisition will strengthen Bayer's portfolio of biological products as well as its important fruit and vegetable business, according to a news release.

Among AgraQuest's products are Serenade, Rhapsody, Sonata and Ballad fungicides and Requiem insecticide.

In the coming months, Bayer will integrate AgraQuest's biopesticide production facility in Tlaxcala, Mexico, and Davis research and development site with its own operations.

AgraQuest has about 250 full-time employees.
