The company has added a 20-acre patented trellis blackberry growing system to offer customers blackberries next July and August, when supplies are tight.
“The blackberry market is expanding,” said Fred Recchiuti, general manager.
The company also is expanding its logistics department.
“The name of the game in logistics is filling up the trucks to the places you are already going,” Recchiuti said.
Basciani will work with other shippers of products compatible with mushrooms, such as blackberries and blueberries.
The company also has launched a sustainability initiative and is replacing its standard lights with LED bulbs rated at 100,000 hours, reducing lighting electricity costs by more than 50%. “We won’t have to change a light bulb in my lifetime,” Recchiuti said.
