Bacteria give infected whiteflies an edge

A bacterium species appears to transform infected whiteflies into superpests, according to recent University of Arizona-led research.

The researchers found that sweet potato whiteflies infected with a Rickettsia species lay more eggs, develop faster and have a higher survival rate than uninfected whiteflies.
