Washington Apple Education FoundationThe Washington Apple Education Foundation will hold two luncheons later this month to recognize a record 185 college-bound students who will share in nearly $850,000 in scholarships.

They ranged from $500 to four-year, nearly full-ride awards designed for young people raised in tree-fruit industry families and communities.

Funds for the scholarships were donated by tree fruit growers, packers and suppliers, and interested community members, according to a news release.

Students were notified of their scholarships earlier this spring.

A July 21 luncheon in Yakima and one July 28 in Wenatchee will not only recognize the students but also celebrate the Wenatchee-based foundation’s 20th anniversary.
