Conference targets small-scale producers
The University of Florida has teamed with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to sponsor a two-day educational conference designed with small-scale producers in mind. It also will feature a trade show.
The Small Farms Alternative Enterprise Conference—officially titled "Sustaining Small Farms; Strengthening Florida's Communities"—will be held Aug. 1-2 at the Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Fla.
The program covers the gamut of topics, from farm solar energy applications to whole-farm nutrient management to blueberry and strawberry production.
According to the unversity, more than 90 percent—or more than 47,000—of the state's farms are categorized as small based on their land size or economic output.
