Fruit fly pest continues to spread

The spotted-wing drosophila, a relatively new fruit fly, continues to spread throughout the West.

It was recently confirmed in a higher-elevation cherry orchard near Wenatchee, Wash.

Earlier this month, it was found in stone fruit orchards near Yakima, Wash.

The fly, which prefers fruit nearing maturity to rotting fruit, was first found in California.
